I met Constable Zimu when he pulled me over for a random spot check. We soon became friends. He told me that they were gearing up for a very busy Easter weekend. It’s the busiest our roads get during the whole year, but we are ready for long hours and hard work. People think it’s fun for us to man roadblocks even at 2:00 in the morning. Little do they know we are on our feet sometimes for 12 hours straight and sometimes right through the night to protect them. We can’t rest and we can’t take chances, we have to stay alert, the next car we pull over could be filled with gunmen wanting to take us out. This year we are especially watchful for drunk drivers, illegal driving like crossing on solid white lines and dangerously overloaded vehicles. There are many dangerous drivers out there, we want to take them down this weekend. The public is very difficult to work with, everyone assumes we are stopping them for bribes and they are very nasty to us! In the meantime, I just want to do an honest days work so I can provide for my family. He laughs, you are the friendliest white man I have ever pulled over …
